FFP3 masks

2020 Jul 04

FFP3 masks are those that meet the European (CEEN 149:2001) standards, which are divided into three levels: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.Different from the American standard, it USES 95L/min for detection flow and DOP oil for dust emission.

Testing instrument:

Detection of FFP3 mask, whether European or United States standards, was specified through a United States TTI-8130 Filter Testers.NaCl method was used in American standard for Class N, DOP method for Class R, and DOP method for European standard.

The NaCl method of TSI-8130 instrument: the instrument can automatically produce salt particles, the average diameter of particles is 0.2 m(aggregate average diameter is 0.26 m, arithmetic average diameter is 0.07 m) through the sample set at a certain flow rate, the instrument automatically print flow, resistance, transmittance.

DOP method used DOP oil to produce dust. The particle diameter of DOP oil was 0.33 m aggregate average particle diameter and 0.20 m count average diameter.

 Filtering material:

Different FFP3 masks use different filtering materials. On the one hand, the filtration effect is related to particle size and also affected by whether the particles contain oil or not.FFP3 masks are usually graded according to their filtration efficiency and are classified according to their suitability for filtering oily particles.Oil-free particulate matter such as dust, water-based mist, paint mist, oil-free smoke (welding smoke), microorganisms, etc."Non-oily particulate matter" filter materials although more common, but they are not suitable for oily particulate matter, such as oil mist, lampblack, asphalt smoke, coke oven smoke and so on.Filtering materials suitable for oily particles can also be used for non-oily particles.
